WE grow about 10 varieties of BLACK currant. All of these varieties are productive and vigorous plants hardy to Zone 2 and do well in many types of soil and climate conditions. Self fertile bushes (4 ft approx ) are easy to pick and  fruit stores very well ( 2-3 months) for fresh market sales. Black currants are in big demand at the moment as there is virtually no commercial production in Canada. Black currant jams and cassis wine( from fermented black currants) are getting more difficult to find. PEI has started some commercial production but Japan is waiting to buy the entire crop. We need more growers across Canada....as many health conscious consumers are now looking for this nutrient dense and versatile food on market shelves.
