QUINCE - Japanese

$99.00

Our Japanese Quince fruit looks(bright yellow) and tastes similar to the more common European quince. However this is where the similarities end. Japanese quince flowers are a very attractive red-orange and Euro quince are white. The "low bush" growth habit of Japanese quince allows for snow cover to protect the fruit buds during the coldest winters(fruit buds on the taller Euro quince do not get same snow protection) Our Japanese quince bushes have produced fruit even after -40 C winters! We have been breeding and selecting for better quince varieties with bigger, tastier fruit for 20 yrs. Japanese quince bushes should start to produce within 2 yrs of planting and the quince fruit are easy to sell even with a high price tag(sold ours at $8/lb = $80,0000/acre crop). This very aromatic fruit has great storage( 6-8 months) and makes delicious quince preserves. Cross pollination between two different varieties promotes more fruiting on both bushes.

Enjoy the delicious aromatic fruit in Sept when they turn a golden yellow colour....a beautiful sight on these dwarf bushes(3ft). Fresh quince fruit are very firm and tart but cooking into sauce or jelly releases their exquisite flavour and aroma. Good business venture as there is zero commercial production in Canada
