We have WILD strawberries growing all over our farm wherever the soil is left undisturbed. Once established they become a permanent ground cover thereby preventing soil erosion while providing small red berries bursting with intense strawberry flavour. Very early to mature fruit( in June here) and wildlife are after them as soon as they ripen. Always manage to gather a few to remind us of the "real' strawberry flavour!  Very cold hardy to zone 2 and can adapt to any soil or climate.
