The Green Point Newsletter
April 9, 2009
Dear friends of the farm,
During the past year the farm has made some changes to staff and to the operation. As some of you might have noticed the Green Barn has arrived on the scene and operates under the same roof as Windmill Point Farm. It can lead to confusion, so here's how it's broken down.
All of the seeds, food crops, food sales and Saturday market side of the business operate under the Windmill Point Farm banner. Green Barn Nursery is the tree division with new initiatives in citrus and indoor growing.
I (Steven) have come on board full time to help Ken, Lorraine and Nicholas grow the tree business and add a helping hand to the market and fruit and vegetable production. We will be sending out newsletters to keep you abreast of what is in season, what is happening on the farm as well as upcoming events, workshops and seminars.
That being said, Ken will be giving workshops and lectures in Peterborough on April 18th and in Kingston on April 25th. Email us if you would like more information. If you would like Ken to visit your town, speak to a group or if you would like to attend future workshops let us know and we'll add you to the list and make sure we reserve you a spot. We will be holding workshops/lectures at the farm in July, August and September. You can find some of the latest articles written by or about the farm on the green barn nursery site.
The Nursery and the Market are officially open on May 2nd so if you'd like to place a tree order take a look at our online catalogue (www.greenbarnnursery.ca) and send us an email to reserve trees and book an appointment.
We will have transplants and tubers available for sale as of May 2nd as well. Some of the fruit and vegetable plants that will be available are: heritage tomatoes, specialty watermelons, cucumbers, potatoes, horseradish, peppers, herbs, crosnes, sunchokes, strawberry, blueberry and raspberry plants as well as a variety of other vegetables and fruits.
We now offer permaculture seeds, so you can purchase a variety of fun and unusual trees and plants in seed format. Plants such raspberry, apricot tree, heartnut tree, sweet cherry tree or even a chum bush can now be started from seed.
For a full list of permaculture seeds go to www.windmillpointfarm.ca.
Thank you for your support and see you at the farm,
