Nagami and Meiwa kumquat are both very popular citrus fruit for Chinese New Year celebrations .The glossy orange fruit have a  sweet edible skin and tart juicy flesh. They are eaten fresh for "refreshing" the palate( sweet/tart zing) and are ideal for cooking (jams, jellies, Asian dishes, etc.).  The round Meiwa is popular kumquat variety in some Asian communities but the elongated Nagami variety also has many admirers.
